Interview

TTUM:

Thank you so much for the interview. Please introduce yourself and the members of Frost Like Ashes?

FROST LIKE ASHES:

Hello, my name is Sebat and I play guitar in Frost Like Ashes. The other members are Azahel on vocals, Adonijah on drums, Qoheleth plays keys and Fire is our bassist.

TTUM:

How the band was created?

FROST LIKE ASHES:

Well I had played metal most of my life, and when Jesus came into my life, my focus and goals changed, and I gave music up for a while. I tried to embrace playing just worship music, but the music that came out of me pretty much stayed the same, and as I grew in the Lord, I came to understand that God is not only into metal but that He was willing to let me play it again, though It took a few years of prayer first. After that few years of praying, which was a hard time to be patient in. I was finally released and Frost Like Ashes became a reality. God opened door after door and all the players just came together. The miracles that have happened since the bands inception and the way that God has spoken so clearly about us and too us is absolutely amazing. God willing we will see another few albums come out in the future.

TTUM:

Why the name of Frost Like Ashes? What it means?

FROST LIKE ASHES:

During the time when I was praying about starting a band, and was asking God to release me to play music again God gave the name to me. I was doing my devotions and the words Frost Like Ashes were “highlighted” to me. It was actually like someone had taken a highlighter marker and well highlighted them. So I made sure to write it down, and later when I was able to meet with Azahel and discuss starting to work together, I asked him about Frost Like Ashes and he felt it was a great fit for what we were planning on doing, so it stuck.

TTUM:

What is the message that you want to bring with your lyrics and music?

FROST LIKE ASHES:

As the guitarist, its hard for me to honestly answer this question, as I don’t know what goes thru our vocalists head when he writes and what he believes with that. But I can talk honestly about what I believe the music we are making is about, and what we ask God to do while we play. I believe earnestly that one of the greatest ways to “worship” the Lord is to strive to create good art, and that is ultimately the goal that Frost Like Ashes has. Now this can be dissected a bit, and some spiritual emphasis can be added, and a bit of clarification, such as. I believe wholeheartedly in a thing called “evangelistic worship” and that’s where as you try to worship God in Spirit and in truth, people around you are impacted for the gospel of Christ. So, in my mind when we create art, that is biblical based and is the best art we are able to do, we pray that this form of worship would be considered by the Holy Spirit to be a place where He would choose to dwell and as people hear it, they are impacted by it. Another aspect to this, while reading thru scripture it was sort of pointed out too by the Lord that He makes war to music, that’s in Isaiah 30:32, well it’s really the entire end of the chapter, but the verse says:

Isa 30:32 And every blow of the rod of his punishment, which the Lord will send on him, will be with the sound of music: and with the waving of his sword the Lord will make war against him.

Anyway, we really feel as a band that this verse is a promise from God that when Frost Like Ashes plays, God wars to our music. Which is an insane thought, imagine if while listening to Frost Like Ashes, God almighty did battle with the devil for you, if unsaved people were set free from deception and brought closer to Jesus. Well I love to think about that, and pray that it happens! I believe that verse was really pointed out to me as a promise for FLA and I choose to believe it. Anyway, cool things about that chapter of Isaiah, it also deals with the place Tophet, so its really been a key passage for us as a band.

TTUM:

How much musical productions you have?

FROST LIKE ASHES:

Well our albums and EPs are:

Pure as the Blood Covered Snow (2 versions, SOTD and Extreme Records)

Tophet (2 versions, Psycho Acoustix and Open Grave Records)

Born to Pieces EP (limited release of 250 Copies world wide)

And we have been involved in some Compilations too

A Treasury of Sorrows

A Brutal Christmas

And some others that I cant remember right now.

TTUM:

How do you expect to be the launching of your new record?

FROST LIKE ASHES:

Well this is practically sold out now; we have just a handful of copies left. I think around 20 left total. We made it officially available at Cornerstone 08.

TTUM:

Do you want to visit some day Central America and Latin America?

FROST LIKE ASHES:

God willing we will be able to start doing this, at this point we are without the proper resources to make this happen, but we will see what will happen in the future. Cornerstone really lit a fire in my heart to see FLA go forward with our message into more places.

TTUM:

Besides Frost Like Ashes, some members have other musical projects?

FROST LIKE ASHES:

Our new bassist Fire is currently involved with Firethrone and Elgibbor and another grind band also. I forget their name at the minute. Our singer and drummer were both formerly in the band Possession, they were controversial, but really did love the Lord and have solid answers for peoples questions regarding that band. I have been really thinking about another musical project, and will focus on that as I have time.

TTUM:

Any final comments before say goodbye?

FROST LIKE ASHES:

Pray for us please!
